Golden Gate Renaissance Faire - Thanks…

August 31st, 2008 by admin

Yea, I know, two weeks late –but that’s a normal recovery period for me. So, without further adue:

WOW what a great faire!

I would like to express greatest thanks to everyone involved in this year’s Golden Gate Renaissance Faire. You guys have really outdone yourself. Working a new theme is challenging. It takes imagination and dedication to make it happen. I cannot express how wonderful it was to see you guys put everything you had into this faire and make it happen. Don, you were phenomenal as Shakespeare. It was fantastic to see you work the shire. MacIans, I don’t think I ever have seen you guys so active and “in your face”. St. Henry’s, you guys are always welcome at Ren Prod Faires. St. John’s, great torture devices. Les Femmes, I was really impressed with your use of masks and how you worked the A Midsummer Night’s theme. Clint, you rocked as the mayor. And the Peanut Gallery of Castlewood, phenomenal work in the streets. Great songs, great gigs. Also, heartfelt thanks to the Court and Deborah. You guys kept it going, ran amazing gigs. Rydell, I don’t know most of your people personally. Please pass onto them my warmest wishes and thanks for a job well done.

There are many other guilds that have done amazing, but these have totally stood out from the crowd. But to all, great thank you for making this a phenomenal show.

Shasta is a few weeks away and then we’re of to Folsom. I’m excited about both shows. As Shasta we will run a Scottish theme. At Folsom, lets run the Shakespeare theme again. We will have mostly the same guilds at that event so we can play with the theme again.

Misses and best to all,
Marti

Blood and Fire - update

August 29th, 2008 by admin

For those of you who are wondering why I fell of the planet w.o. sending new pages of B&F, don’t worry, I fell of the planet because of the story and the new puppy. The pages are going through a major rewrite and will be available for view in a few days. Most of the story will be staying the same, just attitudes will be changing. Adara needs to brighten up a bit, don’t you think? She is running too scared, too paranoid. I don’t know about you, but she got on my nerves within a few pages. How do you feel Demarion would feel after a few hours with her? Geesh, even G’Kar thinks she’s lame…

So… as usual, before going forward, I’m going back. I think you’ll like the new gal. She is still cautious, but willing to take risks. It is how I pictured her before, she just did not come out that way on the page. So…. stay tuned. Updates are forthcoming. And, thanks for all the support!

New family member…

August 29th, 2008 by admin

So, if you have read through some of my old blogs, you probably know that some three months ago I set my heart on getting a dog, specifically an Afghan Hound. The whole process turned to be heart wrenching. I was taken for a ride by Hatari Afghans who ended up taking $1400 and never sent me the dog. I reported her fraudulent dealings to every breeder, organization, rescue place I could think. Before long I found out that the breeder in question had a long standing career of defrauding people. Some of them actually emailed me and I forwarded the info over to Austin Police where I filed charges against Hatari Afghans.

Hearing of my “woes”, owner of Konrobbi Afghan Art and a breeder from KS emailed me about a few puppies she had. She really felt the pain and anger I was feeling and she did not mind parting with one of the litter she had to sooth my life and spirit. Oh what an amazing lady she is! She sent me G’Kar.

The pup is four months old, a rambunctious little Tazmanian Devil. He came in Thursday of last week and has been adjusting well ever since. Actually, it is time for his walk… hugs to all, see you later.

oh.. ps… Detective Greer has persuaded the owner of Hatari Afghans to pay back the money she stole. With that in mind, I don’t regret what happened. I’m saddened by it, but don’t regret it. I have deep knowledge of the media, legal system, breeders world, though perhaps horse world more than K9. I used this knowledge to teach a breeder who has been hurting people for years that she should be more careful in her dealings with people. And if she tries hurt someone else, I’m here to help them through the trying times…. So is the Austin Police.

iPhone Has a Kill Switch

August 13th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has confirmed that the iPhone 3G has a kill switch that can remotely remove software from the devices. Jobs told The Wall Street Journal that Apple needs the capability in case it inadvertently allows a malicious program — such as an application that steals user’s personal data — to be distributed to iPhones through its App Store.

Jobs’ statement reveals Apple hasn’t used the kill switch yet, but the company did remove an application from the App Store last week.

Apple removed the $999 “I Am Rich” application, which had the sole purpose of showing people the owner has money. The program creates a red icon that sits on the iPhone deck with a the words “I Am Rich” underneath. After the user activates the application, it glows on the handset like a ruby.

I Am Rich isn’t the only app to disappear. BoxOffice (renamed to Now Playing) and NullRiver’s NetShare were also removed. But removing the applications from the App Store and removing them from a consumer’s iPhone are two different issues.
