Blood and Fire (cont. 2) copyright 2008

“May I join you?” I was so absorbed in thoughts and memories of the day I did not hear anyone approach our little dark corner. The husky voice belonged to a mountain of a man whose face I could not make out in the shadows but the tall imposing frame and broad shoulders were hard to miss. A shiver ran up my spine as I felt unfamiliar power reverberate of him. Without waiting for an answer the stranger eased himself into the seat across from me. For a moment I felt my mouth go dry, but determined not to show apprehension I felt, I spoke up. Read the rest of this entry »

Martin’s new garb…

April 28th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

Last Thursday I just finished Martin’s pants and under doublet. The doublet is made from a pin tucked cream cotton with black trimmings and the pants from gray wool with embroidered leather striping and finished with black trimming that matches the under doublet. He looks absolutely amazing in it. It makes for a great addition to the blackworked shirt I made for him last year. He has debuted the shirt last year at Visalia. It was only proper that that’s where he’d debut his new garb. I wish I had the chance to finish the over doublet, however, I my old Phaff gave out its ghost last week. The over doublet is of leather that matches the striping on the pants. The whole thing is embroidered.  He will look stunning. Well, he already does. But here will look just that much better.

It is a pleasure to work with Martin. He puts his total trust in his tailor. I am very glad to have him as a client and proud to dress him. I’ll post pictures of garb once I have them.

Arizona Faire…

April 28th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

Clint and I I visited Arizona Faire a month ago. As a producer of single weekend events, I have to say I’m jealous. 30,000 acres of amazing six to eight weeks of fun. What a lovely set up… I think that is one of the prettiest events I’ve been to so far. The buildings, the ambiance were absolutely spectacular. They had three or four food courts, 100s of shops, delightful games for kids and adults alike, amazing jousting arena. So many stages, so much fun! I loved the Nuny Nuny. I purchased a beautiful ostrich egg box from Humpty Dumpty and I met the first fairy ever that I actually would pay to have at my faires. She moved like a ballerina enchanting the kids and patrons alike.

I wish they had more actors at the show and perhaps better dressed. That’s something that is something I’m very proud of when it comes to our events. It is tougher to pull together one weekend shows Golden Gate Renaissance Faire, Folsom, Shasta. Valhalla Renaissance Faire’s Tahoe ambiance only adds to the transportation of patrons into the Shakespearian world.

But I digress. I think Clint and I will take a trip back to Arizona next year. I’m hoping that a few others will join us on the trip. I met the talent coordinator while at the faire. She is a phenomenal, fun person. She actually lives on site! Ok, that’s just amazing. She’d love to have us add to the ambiance. And I’d love to get out there and provide….

For now though.. on to our own shows…

Good bye to Michael…

April 28th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

As we get older Death creeps closer and closer to our doors. Friends passing stands as a reminder that life is slipping away faster day by day.

Last year started and ended with a funeral. This year started the same. Ken Weipert followed his wife only a few weeks after her passing, few weeks ago Steve passed on in a motorcycle accident and most recently Michael from Santiagos suffered from a heart attack and left this world. I miss Ken terribly and will miss Michael very much. He was such a caring, loving person and his passing has really struck me hard. Though we did not know each other extensively, every faire we spent at least some time talking. He knew how to brighten one’s day and on blue days, I craved his company.

Our Renaissance family is very small. It is like a small town: people know each other… care for each other. Loosing one marks us all. Marked me. Farewell dear friend. Miss you already…

I just found this really cool pic of me and Knight from last year’s Golden Gate Renaissance Faire. Knight looks so great. The new dress does not look to bad either ;-)

New Laptop….

April 8th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

So, I’m thinking of purchasing a new laptop. The 17″ Gateway P-6831FX or the Asus M50 Series. Which do you think think is a better buy?
