Help Save Dicken’s Faire

February 29th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

Have you ever had a chance to go to Dicken’s Faire? It is the most amazing Victorian Christmas Experience. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, you might be out of luck to see it at all as Daily City will be demolishing the Cow Palace leaving the event homeless.

Check out this morning’s Chronicle (link below). The article is very well written and it drives home important nostalgia (family) vs. big development theme which is critical to our success. We are NOT DONE. Hit the Chronicle comment board. We want to flood it.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/28/MNE0V9LPS.DTL&tsp=1

Also, if you are so inclined, please take a minute right away to call the Daly City Manager and tell her she is wrong…

Daly City Manager Patricia Martel has just gone on record as saying the Cow Palace contributes NOTHING to the community. This is dead wrong.

Help us get two hundred calls to her office as soon as possible.
Flood her lines. Christmas, dogs, trains, ice skaters, circuses, Globe Trotters, and millions of dollars in income to hotels, restaurants, gas stations and jobs contribute nothing.? Right.

PROGRAM INTO YOUR CELL AND CALL ALL DAY, EVERY DAY:

(650) 991-8127 and (650) 991-8092.

While you’re at it, call Senator Yee’s office again and again…and again.

(650) 340-8840 Local Office, 415) 557-7857 SF office, and (916) 651-4008 Sac office. Call ‘em all. Senator Yee measures public opinion every day! He is a math guy. Make him count you. Make his staff rue the day he tried to cancel Christmas and destroy California history!

Plan to show up tonight Thursday 2/28/08 at the Daly City public forum if you can, or ask someone you know in the area to come. Kevin will be there at 6:00, the meeting starts at 7:00.

The Bayshore Community Center is a very new building with a library. It’s right behind the Cow Palace on the hill…

Please forward this post to your list at the risk of being redundant.

This is the moment. A very strong showing tonight will send a strong message. We will be sure the new media is there. Attire: Daly City Resident circa 1980 to present. If you can organize costumes like giant flowers, trains, cheer leaders, Elvis…even a few Dickensian characters, go for it. Can someone get Martin on a plane from London please? … We can work on a big costume thing for the next forum (see below) which will keep the issue in the media. Just showing up tonight is the important thing.

Thank you!!! >>>PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL<<<

We CAN win this.

PR accomplishments…. so far…

February 16th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

I’ve been in PR for over 12 years. I spent most of my time in gaming, semiconductor, and consumer markets. Lately I’ve been thinking of some of my accomplishments for some of my past clients. There are a few things I’m proud of, those that top the list include the successful:
• positioning and communication strategy for AGEIA PhysX processor and PhysX powered games
- NetDevil’s Warmonger, and Auto Assault, Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon II, Epic’s UT3, etc…
• repositioning of GameSpy’s product offering, establishment of GameSpy Innovation Award
• lunch and communication strategy of PLAYXPERT and DREAMFLYER
• launch and communication strategy program implementation for Transmeta’s Efficeon processor and simultaneous closure of MPF trade show (as all visitors descended to out meeting rooms
• launch and positioning of first ever Tablet PC; coordination between Acer, Microsoft and Intel for CES
• launch and communication strategy for Oki Semiconductor’s World’s Smallest ARM MCU
• launch and positioning of Chipcon RF chip family
• media strategy for the AOpen Aeolus GeForce line
• launch and communication strategy for AOpen’s first Mini PC (completed 3 weeks prior to the launch of Mac Mini)
• repositioning of Fujitsu’s server line
• etc…
I specialize in strategic planning, crisis communications and strategic and tactical media positioning. I have great experience in managing and participating in the development, implementation, and coordination of internal and external public relations strategies for numerous companies. My passion, drive and expertise in PR make me a great asset at any company in need of good, solid PR.

Valentines Day… Alexander’s Steakhouse

February 16th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

Was terrific, safe for the darn bug I caught in the morning. By dinner time I was almost unconscious. We went to Alexanders Steakhouse, the best place for a steak in San Jose, if not the Bay Area. You might say I’m a bit partial, I love the ambiance and the service. I cannot however praise the latter yesterday. We were set at an overflow section that I’m sure was managed by trainee waiter. The dinner lasted 2.5 hours; usually I don’t gripe about being at dinner for that long, I love the conversation and good service makes the time in the restaurant pleasurable. But yesterday was not so “nice”.  The hall was drafty, the service slow, the waiter incompetent. The appetizers weren’t served till an hour + into the service and only after reminder our hostess of our arrival time was there a fire lit up under our waiter. The conversation and company made the differ wonderful. The food was amazing as always, though the cocktails lacked their level of perfection as did the desert. Though wonderfully presented on a dish that resembled a painter’s pallet, the various little delicacies lacked unity. The strawberry was wonderful, so was the muse and ice cream on the bed crunched coca beans, however the cake was dreadful. Too hard to dig your fork into and too bitter to consume.  All in all an allright experience, but lacking the usual perfection I expect of the place. On the scale of 1-10, this time I have to give it only a 4

AGEIA acquired by NVIDIA

February 4th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

It’s official. NVIDIA Corporation today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire AGEIA Technologies. As the acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions, I have been bound by strict non disclosure / comment rules and was unable to reveal any information pertaining to this deal until NVIDIA itself made the announcement. For more info on the acquisition, please see http://www.nvidia.com/object/io_1202161567170.html

I’m excited about the news and about the possibilities. It will be interesting to see how this acquisition plays out in several ways, not the least of which is the effect on game developer. I love being part of this…

My little innovis

February 4th, 2008 by Marti Miernik

I’ve spent the weekend working on a series of new embroidery designs that I will be showcasing at the upcoming Renaissance Symposium later this month in Modesto. I love how fast I can turn a simple picture into an intricate embroidered work of art. I did forget how to turn certain projects into blackwork; the computer crash, then conflicts between Vista and Innovis, it has been a while since I had a chance to play with the program. Also v.6.0 and 7.0 of the program are a little different, so there is a bit of a learning curve. Dave called last Saturday and looks like the latest sewing machine upgrade is available. The upgrade will enable me to make quick changes to designs on the screen and speed up the production process.

Martin showed up last weekend with his girlfriend.  They really make a cute couple. Looks like we’re off to LA this upcoming Sunday to pick up a few fabrics for his new Italian garb. I’m planning a few interesting touches on the finished piece… something in the line of this piece.
