I wanted to invite everyone to the second annual Ren Prod Picnic / Mixer. Last year’s event was a blast. We had a good number of guilds, vendors, and stage performers come out and play and mix with those we only see in garb most of the time. I love this sort of camaraderie and I don’t believe we do it enough… So, with that in mind, Read the rest of this entry »

Oh God… did I stir up a hornets nest. For a few months now I’ve been on a rampage to enhance faire costuming. Truth is faire garb is not what is used to be once. People don’t seem to care much, which is really frustrating. Everyone wants to have a fair, not everyone is interested in working at having one.
I suggested a costuming guide line - actually I did not suggest. I put into place. That really pissed people off. It is funny though. The guide lines have been noted on every faire for the last 15 years or so, but no one paid attention. Now we say that we do and people have an issue with that. But I’m not discouraged. I think we can get the faires back to the quality they should be. I think Tahoe is right where it should be.
BTW, here is a glimpse of future guidelines… Read the rest of this entry »

Clint and I I visited Arizona Faire a month ago. As a producer of single weekend events, I have to say I’m jealous. 30,000 acres of amazing six to eight weeks of fun. What a lovely set up… I think that is one of the prettiest events I’ve been to so far. The buildings, the ambiance were absolutely spectacular. They had three or four food courts, 100s of shops, delightful games for kids and adults alike, amazing jousting arena. So many stages, so much fun! I loved the Nuny Nuny. I purchased a beautiful ostrich egg box from Humpty Dumpty and I met the first fairy ever that I actually would pay to have at my faires. She moved like a ballerina enchanting the kids and patrons alike.
I wish they had more actors at the show and perhaps better dressed. That’s something that is something I’m very proud of when it comes to our events. It is tougher to pull together one weekend shows Golden Gate Renaissance Faire, Folsom, Shasta. Valhalla Renaissance Faire’s Tahoe ambiance only adds to the transportation of patrons into the Shakespearian world.
But I digress. I think Clint and I will take a trip back to Arizona next year. I’m hoping that a few others will join us on the trip. I met the talent coordinator while at the faire. She is a phenomenal, fun person. She actually lives on site! Ok, that’s just amazing. She’d love to have us add to the ambiance. And I’d love to get out there and provide….
For now though.. on to our own shows…
